Dehumidifiers for blast cleaning and painting

6,000 to 18,000 m³/h — humidity control for blasting and painting
CYM Materiales designs and supplies a range of industrial dehumidifiers for blast cleaning and painting that control ambient humidity in blast rooms, shipyards, petroleum tanks and large maintenance projects. The correct blast cleaning and painting procedure requires the steel surface to remain at least 3°C above the dew point: if moisture condenses on a blast-cleaned surface, it causes flash rusting and compromises the adhesion and cure of the coating. The world's leading paint manufacturers — Jotun, International Paint, Hempel — do not guarantee the quality of their coatings unless they are applied in a humidity-controlled environment.
The key benefit of the dehumidifier is its ability to control the working environment, saving costs for the contractor and improving coating application results. With the system operating, the blast-cleaned surface can remain rust-free for one to two weeks without applying the coating. This allows the entire surface — even on large installations — to be blast-cleaned before painting in a single application, after removing blast debris and dust. Work can begin early in the morning and even continue in rainy weather, without dependency on climatic conditions. Additionally, dry air is essential for steel abrasive: overnight humidity can condense inside the blast pot and oxidize the abrasive; the dehumidifier keeps the shot dry and in optimal working condition.
CYM offers three container-type dehumidifier ranges in capacities from 6,000 to 18,000 m³/h, selected according to the climatic conditions of each project: the DHS range for hot climates (24°C to 38°C), the DHP range with Freon pre-heater for temperate climates (10°C to 38°C) and the DHD range for extreme temperatures (−20°C to 38°C). All models supply conditioned air at 25°C ±3°C with relative humidity below 45% and a dew point of 10°C, with 90% efficiency air filtration, noise level ≤80 dB(A) and IP55 control panel.
Applications
Applications and processes for dehumidification
CYM dehumidifiers are applied in any blast cleaning and painting process where ambient humidity could compromise coating quality or work continuity. The system eliminates dependency on weather conditions, allowing the contractor to control the working environment regardless of temperature, rain or seasonal humidity.

INDUSTRIES AND APPLICATIONS
- Shipyards: new vessel blast cleaning, repairs and dry-dock blasting
- Oil and gas: equipment manufacturing, refinery petroleum tanks and offshore platform maintenance
- Large blast cleaning and painting rooms
- Wind towers and power plants
- Bridge blasting and large maintenance projects
- Water-based surface preparation (waterjetting, hydroblasting, wetblasting): rapidly removes residual moisture from cracks and welds

OPERATIONAL BENEFITS
- Controls the working environment regardless of weather: enables work in rain and from early morning
- Maintains blast-cleaned surface rust-free for 1 to 2 weeks without requiring coating application
- Allows full surface blast cleaning before painting the entire surface in a single application
- Lowers dew point temperature and prevents moisture condensation on the blast-cleaned steel
- Keeps steel shot dry and rust-free inside the blast pot
- Meets humidity conditions required by paint manufacturers (Jotun, International Paint, Hempel) to guarantee their coatings
