Abrasives for blasting
Steel shot, glass bead and aluminum oxide
How to choose the abrasive by equipment and finish
CYM Materiales offers a complete range of metallic and mineral abrasives for blasting processes by centrifugal wheel and compressed air. Each abrasive is selected according to the material to be treated, the required finish and the type of equipment, to achieve the best cleaning performance with the lowest consumption and wear.
Centrifugal wheel machines are designed specifically for metallic abrasives —carbon or stainless steel shot, in spherical (shot) or angular (grit) form—, while compressed-air systems accept a much wider variety: in addition to metallic shot, glass bead, aluminum oxide and other mineral abrasives depending on the application.
Steel shot is highly recyclable —between 700 and 5,000 cycles depending on diameter, type and hardness—, does not absorb moisture and delivers uniform finishes. For finishes without base-metal removal, glass bead is used; for maximum aggressiveness and anchor profile, aluminum oxide.
Unlike silica sand, CYM Materiales' abrasives do not generate respirable free silica, the main cause of silicosis and the reason sandblasting is restricted in many industrialized countries. In this section you will find each abrasive in detail, with its technical characteristics and recommended applications.
